When to Replace Your Boiler

Boilers can last a pretty long time, even when compared to other heating systems. This is mainly because boilers have fewer moving parts, which means that they have fewer ways to develop problems. They aren’t invincible, though. Eventually, your boiler will get so old and worn out that you need to replace it. It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the signs that your boiler is reaching the end if its life, so that you can replace it before it breaks down completely. Read on for more information about when to replace your boiler.

Rising Heating Bills

The massive amount of wear and tear generated over years of normal use will prevent the system from functioning as well as it once did. As the efficiency of the system drops, it will stay on for ever-longer periods of time in order to compensate. This added operation time is what will cause higher monthly heating bills. If your heating bills are going up for no reason, you should talk to a professional about replacing your boiler.

Increased Repair Needs

The same wear and tear that causes a drop in heating efficiency will also eventually cause various parts of the boiler system to fail. A boiler shouldn’t need repairs more than once a year, and even that is pretty often. If you have to repair your boiler multiple times a year, it’s probably a good idea to get it replaced. Sure, with enough money you could probably keep it operating for another decade or so. At that point, though, it would be far more cost-effective to just install a new heating system. Why keep a system around that isn’t serving well?
