When to Install a New Air Conditioner

Air conditioners can last quite a while, but they’re just as susceptible to wear and tear as any other system. Sooner or later, your air conditioner will become so worn out that it will break down permanently. You’re going to want to be able to identify when your air conditioner is nearing that point, so that you can replace it before it happens. Otherwise, you run the risk of suddenly finding yourself without air conditioning at a time when you might need it. Let’s take a look at some of the signs that you need a new air conditioner.

Higher Costs

The older an air conditioner gets, the more wear and tear it will accumulate on the various parts of the system. This will eventually cause a steady decline in the efficiency of the system, forcing it to stay on for longer and longer periods of time to compensate for the loss of output. This will cause your air conditioner to start costing more and more money to operate. If your monthly bills are steadily rising, and there’s no apparent reason for it, it may mean that you need a new air conditioner.

Repairs

The steady loss of efficiency caused by the wear and tear on the system will eventually start resulting in whole groups of parts failing. Normally, an air conditioner shouldn’t need repairs more than once every few years. Older air conditioners become harder and harder to keep in operating condition, though. If you need to repair your air conditioner every few months, you should strongly consider installing an entirely new system. Otherwise, you’re just going to spend more and more money just to keep your current air conditioner in working order.
