Should I Replace My Water Heater?

Water heaters are solid systems, and can last quite a while under the right circumstances. Eventually, though, it will wear down to the point that it needs to be replaced. If you’re not sure whether or not your water heater can get you through another winter, read on to find out.

Output is Dropping

A common sign that your water heater is failing is a steady decrease in output over time. All water heaters will need time to replenish their hot water supplies, if placed under enough demand for a long enough period of time. However, if your water heater seems as though it is struggling to keep up with even moderate demand, it may be a sign that you need to replace it.

Repairs

All systems need repairs every once in a while. However, the older a water heater gets, the more worn down it will become. This will make it more likely for problems to occur. If you need to repair your water heater every couple of months, it’s a good sign that you need to have it replaced.

Age

The average water heater lasts 10-15 years. Past that point, a water heater will start to develop all kinds of issues like those listed above. If your water heater is older than 15 years, you should really talk to a professional about whether or not a new water heater would benefit you. You don’t want to spend a lot of money maintaining a failing water heater when you can save money on the long run by replacing it.
