Why Trenchless Pipe Replacement is Preferable to Other Options

water-lineThere are a number of pipes that run under your property to your home, where they connect to the rest of the plumbing system. Of these pipes, the two most important are your water and sewer lines. Without these, your plumbing system would not be able to function. If you use natural gas in your home, the gas line is another pipe that falls into this category. All of these pipes present a rather unique problem. They’re important to the operation of your home, but they’re quite difficult to get to under normal circumstances. This means if they break and need replacement, they can cause major headaches for everyone involved. Fortunately, there is an easy way to replace damaged water, sewer, and gas pipes. Let’s take a look at the advantages of trenchless pipe replacement.

The Precursor to Trenchless

Prior to the advent of trenchless technology, the typical response to one of these pipes needing replacement was to dig a trench along the length of it. That certainly works, but it’s not ideal. For one, the trench method means that you have to wait for the entire area to be excavated before replacing the pipe itself. For another, trench pipe replacement causes quite a bit of damage to the surrounding area. If you want your property to look visually appealing, you might have to spend thousands of dollars on restoring the lawn after a trench large enough to secure the western front has been dug through it. With trenchless technology, though, you don’t have to worry about that.

The Benefits of Trenchless

Trenchless technology, as you might have guessed, doesn’t require any kind of trench. Instead, two small pits are dug, one at either end of the pipe section that needs to be replaced. A motor then pushes a breaker head through one end of the pipe. The breaker head can be outfitted to do a number of things, depending on the nature of the job and the material the old pipe is made of. It can break up the old pipe and move it out of the way, or it can simply push the old pipe out into the pit on the other end. As the breaker head moves along, it lays the new pipe at the same time. The old pipe is removed, and the new one installed, at the same time. Once the new pipe is connected, the two pits are filled in with minimal damage to the surrounding area.

Trenchless saves you both time and money, which is why it’s becoming so popular across the country. With a trenchless system, you don’t have to worry about spending lots of money on construction equipment or landscaping. You just need to sit back and a trenchless expert take care of everything for you in a fraction of the time.
