Why Trenchless is Better
Prior to the invention of trenchless technology, the only way to replace a water or sewer line was to dig it up. A trench would have to be dug for the entire length of the pipe, so that the entire thing could be removed. This was incredibly destructive to the surrounding area, requiring potentially thousands of dollars in landscape remediation afterwards. How it Works
Trenchless technology involves digging a small hole at each end of the pipe section that needs to be replaced. A machine then pushes the pipe section from one hole and out of the other one. While the machine is pushing the old pipe section out, it is simultaneously laying the new section of pipe. The old pipe is automatically cut into smaller sections as it reaches the end of the line, for easier disposal. Once the new pipe is laid, the holes are filled in.
